Maximus Prophet - 2020

Taking "selfies" has become a popular compulsion over the past few decades. Ironically vanity plays only a small part in that dynamic. The driving force behind the selfie-taking compulsion is loneliness. Yes, the fact that most humans live in their own minds twenty-three hours and fifteen minutes throughout the day while only communicating with others for a total of forty-five minutes creates a certain sense of ongoing loneliness in most people. Thus when the opportunity to have quality communications with others presents itself, most are eager to engage in that interaction. The selfie offers an easy conduit for that sought-after social interaction.

A pathetic example of the above described interaction can be found on the Twitter account of Kate Hudson. A few years ago she Tweeted a selfie of her face with tears in both eyes. The caption read "I just listened to Adele's new album and this is what happened". Anyone who has a rudimentary understanding of psychology can instantly discern that Kate's Tweet was purposefully designed to humanize her in the minds of the general public while illiciting sympathy from them at the same time. She realizes that most consider her to be a middle-aged divorcee who lives a posh lifestyle in Hollywood-hills where her hardest decision throughout the average day would involve whether to tell her Gardner to plant roses or petunias in her front yard. No, Kate is a sensitive human being - look at the tears in her eyes, and she loves walking down her mental memory lane while listening to an entire albums' worth of sappy love songs sung by Adele!! I'm sure Kate's Tweet garnished plenty of responses from the like-minded masochists on her Twitter friends list. *rolls eyes*

With so many attention-seeking emotional leeches out there, it should be easy to see why I don't feel compelled to participate in the selfie-taking dynamic. In addition I have a near-photographic memory. Thus when I'm in the mood to reminisce about a particular past event from my life, I just calmly bring those memories to the forefront of my mind. Then I review the entire event in my mind as if I were watching a movie. Thus I'd actually be doing myself a disservice is I relied on a selfie to reminisce about that experience.

Therefore, I now offer for your perusal a picture of myself that was originally featured on an ID card. I had a friend scan the picture, then send it to me via email. Thus the resulting image is somewhat grainy and its contrast is too bright. However, the image does enable you, Dear Reader, to gleam more than enough visual information to formulate a sense of familiarity with my facial construct, then store my image and the feeling you associate with it in the deeper recesses of your mind. Enjoy...
